The LPG crisis in India due to the Iran war has created a ruckus situation in the country. From queuing outside LPG distributor offices to closure of restaurants, the crisis has hit the urban denizens pretty hard. However, in this distress, Electric Cooking in India has been coming out as an alternate source. In this phase of LPG struggle, Indian kitchens are finding options in electric cooking appliances. 

India imports 60% of LPG and 50% of Gas. The rise of the LPG crisis has exposed the lapse of the government of being fully dependent on imports. In the heist of the crisis, electric cooking has come out as an affordable and sustainable resource in this painstaking situation.

The usage of power grid and deployment of rooftop solar are some of the common resources of power generation. Electric cooking stands out as an environmentally- friendly option due to zero emission as compared to conventional methods of cooking structure.

For a country like India where LPG is the prime source point of cooking medium, electricity-powered cooking is something that needs more exposure. Although in the leading metro cities, households and restaurants are somewhat relatable to the electric cooking process. However, in the tier 2 & 3 cities, electric cooking is still not a viable option. 

According to IEEFA the practice of Electric Cooking in India can cut down cost to 37% as compared to non-subsidised LPG. Electric cooking tops transfer about 85% of energy to vessels while LPG burner manages approximately 40%. 

In this mode of crisis, households are opting out for electric cooking alternates. But, the restaurant chains in the country are still mostly dependent on the conventional LPG form of kitchen setup. In order to reform commercial kitchens to electric, the backend infrastructure needs a boost up. There should be enough power generation to run the electricity demand. At present, such infrastructure in India is not operative. Whereas, hybrid kitchen models are more relevant where both electric and conventional LPG are used simultaneously.

Switching to electric cooking despite the infrastructural backdrop is worthwhile. Electric cooking is an effective choice to boost India in settling down to decarbonisation pathways. In restaurants, electric cooking expansion should pace up as it will reduce cost, increase operational efficiency and reduce risk enhancement.

Electric cooking has no pollution. Electric cooking produces no direct emissions, reducing indoor air pollution. For restaurants, electric cooking will reduce the dependencies of conventional mediums that produce gallons of CO2  which is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

LPG prices are always fluctuating. Unlike electric, LPG commercial cylinders for restaurants are quite expensive. Installation of electric cooktops make cooking more economical and sustainable. It averts the uncertainty of LPG availability and makes commercial use ineffective.

An electric kitchen set up is a perfect combination where smart technology meets traditional cooking methods.
